A homemade sunscreen

A homemade sunscreen

Sunscreen for an all day protection!

In fact sunscreen protection is necessary all year round. But we usually get more serious about this issue when the first heat starts and summer comes.

Although it is well known and commonly accepted that no substance or preparation can substitute the essential and essential physical protection offered by shading and covering the body with clothes, hats and glasses, there is always the need for more protection with sunscreen.

Here we will see how we can make our sunscreen alone, saving money, but also having a sure and natural effect.

As the basis of the product we use mineral raw materials, vegetable oils and herbal extracts .

The ingredients for the sunscreen

30 gr sesame oil

30 gr of sunflower oil

20 grams of avocado oil

15 gr beeswax

20 gr aloe gel

100 gr of lavender flower

35 g of zinc oxide

60 drops of grape seed extract fruit

Beeswax is a natural emulsifier that helps to mix fatty and aqueous ingredients. Grapefruit seed extract fruit works antimicrobial, preventing the growth of microorganisms and prolonging the shelf life of the preparation.

Equipment

2 glassware

1 large deep stainless steel vessel as a base for a water bath (bain marie)

Cooking area

Stainless steel spoons

A small hand blender

Small containers to store the cream

Method

Weigh or measure the materials as accurately as possible .

As a first step, it is good to sterilize all the dishes you will use to avoid the growth of microorganisms. Boiling sterilization (10-15 minutes) is one of the most common and effective methods of sterilization.

Cut the candle into small pieces and put it in a glass utensil along with the vegetable oil ( sesame oil , sunflower oil , oil avocado ).

Place the glass vessel in a deep stainless steel vessel, add the stainless dish small amount of water and put on a stovetop adjusting the temperature low (bain marie ).

When the candle melts completely, remove the pot from the fire, add the zinc oxide, stir well   let the mixture cool down for   sometime until its temperature reaches 35-40ºC.

For safety reasons add zinc oxide to the mixture while wearing a protective mask to avoid particle inhalation.

In a second pot mix rosewater, gel aloe and the extract seeds grape fruit and add to the original mix   stirring continuously with a small blender for about one minute.

The mixture begins to be homogeneous cream. Continue to stir for 4-5 minutes with a spatula until the cream starts to cool.

Empty the cream in one or more jars and write for each one a label with the ingredients and the date of preparation.

Your cream will have an average shelf life of 6 months if kept in a shady, cool place.

Most of the materials can be purchased from herbal stores, health food stores, or a store of organic products. Some more specific ingredients such as zinc oxide or lavender flower water can be found at cosmetics stores.

The preparation of sunscreen it takes about an hour and has a small degree of difficulty. The cream has a SPF 20-25 protection indicator .
