International Friendship Day

International Friendship Day

In 2011, the United Nations announces International Friendship Day, which is celebrated every year since 30 July. What is the purpose of celebrating such a day? According to its creators, the friendship of peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can contribute to peacebuilding, to bridging differences, to "humanize humanity", so it is worth mentioning it separately.

It is a fact that people across all lengths and latitudes of the earth face many challenges, linked to the laws that govern the world we live in. The military conflicts that bring death, violence, poverty and refugees, the economic crises that crush fundamental rights over and over again, are issues that humanity must find ways to solve.

The friendship of the peoples, when distinguished by a spirit of solidarity and trust, then there is hope. When people's relationships are characterized by sincerity, love, and built on the principles of mutual respect, then change can occur.

Friendship is nothing more than a great protection net that can protect us all, create the passion and motivation to create a better world where no one is left over.

For history, the first World Friendship Day was proposed for July 30, 1958 by the World Friendship Crusade, an international political organization promoting the cultivation of peace through friendship. Finally, just in 2011, it was declared July 30 as International Friendship Day by the United Nations General Assembly.

It is particularly noteworthy that in recent years, with the increasing popularity of social media around the world, there has been an increase in celebration of this day. Other local communities, on the occasion of Friendship Day, also included issues related to mutual respect, tolerance, solidarity and friendship in the design of their activities.

Of course, the road is still a long way to rest that one such day a year can solve big problems by magic. Apart from the fact that in many cases behind the guise of friendship are hiding hypocrisy and a growing tolerance that sooner or later the goals and motives are revealed. So these are issues that must be of concern to us every day, if we are to truly make this world better.
