International Yoga Day is linked with the Environment issue

Today, June 21, the International Yoga Day is celebrated for the 5th consecutive year, a special day for the ubiquitous enthusiasts of this ancient philosophical and practical system, and beyond.

The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Monti took the initiative to celebrate yoga world-wide in 2014. In particular, he submitted a request on 27 September to the UN General Assembly, which in turn adopted and established it on 21 June each year International Yoga Day.

It is worth citing what the Indian Prime Minister himself said to support his request before the assembly:

"Yoga is an invaluable gift of our ancient tradition. This is not an exercise, it is a route through which individuals can discover the sense of unity with nature. It embodies the unity of body and mind, thought and action, self-restraint and fulfillment, harmony of man with nature. In general, it is a holistic approach to health and well-being. Yoga helps us change our way of life and through this change to deal with climate change. "

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice, whose roots are held in India. The word 'yoga' is Sanskrit and means 'to unite', 'to combine', a word which symbolizes the union of the body with consciousness.

Nowadays it is a very popular type of practice in our country, but more generally in Europe and America.

This year, a discussion will be held this morning at the United Nations Building in New York on Yoga for Climate Action. This issue is not chosen at random, as the issue of climate change and its consequences is a determining factor for the standard of living of people around the world. The philosophy of Yoga is indissolubly linked to nature, the environment and human existence, so it is chosen to discuss such an important issue.

The aim is, through this day and the discussions that are being developed, to make the benefits of yoga for man more widely known, to make the public more aware of important issues so that as many and more organized as possible contribute to solving issues world-wide.
